“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18-19).
This verse is written on a plaque that hangs above our front door. It was a wedding gift from our incredible bridal party and serves as a constant reminder of what God is doing – something NEW! God has been highlighting this truth more and more over the past couple weeks, preparing us for the new things He has in store.
The past seven months in Thailand have been an incredible time of growth, full of victories and challenges, and lots of learning! It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s through these challenges that God is maturing and molding us into the people He’s called us to be. Praise God for that. We’ve been learning how to be faithful with what we’ve been entrusted with, how God sometimes calls us to pour into the visions and dreams of our brothers and sisters, how to serve in ways we don’t naturally feel gifted, and how to trust, trust, trust in Him! We are still learning, but we’re so grateful for this season and all the Lord has taught us, the people we’ve built relationships with, and the ways we’ve seen God move. HE IS GOOD!
Recently, through dreams, visions, and words from friends, God has been speaking about something new on the horizon. It wasn’t until tonight that we put the pieces together and realized how various words from the Lord over the past couple of weeks fit together. God is SO cool!! I love how He speaks, reveals, and confirms things to His children. What a gift.
The other day I was praying over Jesse and God gave me a vision. I saw ocean waves washing up on the shore, again and again, washing away the old and bringing in the new. It was like they were clearing the slate clean, and there was an incomprehensible peace amidst it all. I also heard the word “change”, and I knew somehow it all fit together.
A week ago at the Gathering (our community worship service), some friends started praying over us and one of them got a vision. She said she saw a picture of God cleaning out our house, dusting off our belongings, and putting new things in the house and up on the walls. She saw new decorations, new picture frames, new everything. God was dusting away the old and bringing in the new.
Last night I had a dream that there were a bunch of people at our home and they were cleaning it up, trimming bushes, doing other yard work, repairing parts of the house, etc. Newness was coming.
Just this morning I got a message from a college friend I haven’t talked to in months. This is what he said: “Hey Jenny, I was praying the other night and you and Jesse came up in my prayers. I felt led to pray for you guys that you would be flowing with the river of God. I was thinking of that vision (either Isaiah or Ezekiel) where the river is flowing out of the temple. Then I felt Isaiah 33 and verse 21 specifically for you guys. Then I also kept hearing lyrics repeating “we’re gonna dance in the river” from the song ‘Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble’.”
Pretty legit, huh? The verse he was talking about says this, “But there the Lord in majesty will be for us, a place of broad rivers and streams…” (Isaiah 33:21).
After praying and worshipping at the Gathering tonight, God brought all of this full-circle. Jesse looked up at the plaque on our wall and read the verse we know so well. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19). The verse reminded him of the message our friend had sent us earlier today about flowing with the river of God and the verses that went along with it. As Jesse was praying, he saw that all of the things God has been speaking recently fit together.
The past few months have been consumed with busyness, running around, and neglecting priorities we know should come first. It has taken a toll on our minds, bodies, and spirits, but praise God… change is coming!
God is going to wash away the old and bring in the new, clear away the marks in the sand and make it smooth once more, usher in His peace and His presence, bring about change, metaphorically clean, dust, and restore our house (or our foundation), put new things into place, and allow streams to spring up where there was once wasteland. PRAISE JESUS! Instead of staying in that old place, God wants us to jump into the river, get lost in its flow, and let it lead us into the new places He has in store. We’re going to “dance in the river” with joy as the newness comes. Yes, Jesus!
We’ve been so blessed every step of this journey, as God has met us right where we’re at and provided exactly what we’ve needed. We truly have an amazing Dad who is running after us and going before us. We’re so excited about what’s to come, the new things God is doing, as well as what He’s already done.
p.s. We’re coming home to the States soon for a visit and also so we can renew our visas! We’ll be in California at the end of November, in Georgia the beginning of December, and Massachusetts at the end of December. We fly back here on January 2nd.
